Sewing Instructions for Back to School Ginny Dress

Sewing Instructions for Back to School Ginny Dress
Here are the sewing instructions for making the 6 to 8 inch doll dress for back to school. This dress should fit Vogue Ginny dolls, American Girl Mini Dolls, Madame Alexander 8 inch dolls, and other dolls of similar size. I highly recommend that you do all the sewing by hand, these are some tiny pieces!

Start by sewing the front and back of the bodice together at the shoulder seams, right sides facing. Turn under the neck edge, 1/8 inch, to the wrong side and stitch the lace to the inside.

Fold both sleeve pieces in half, from top to bottom to find the center top (curved edge). Line up the fold at the top of each sleeve with the shoulder seams and sew the sleeves in place, gathering slightly the sleeve to fit the bodice. Turn under the sleeve hems 1/8 inch and attach the lace, as you did at the neck. Sew the under arm and bodice side seams.

Using a long basting stitch, on a long edge of the skirt, gather the skirt to fit the bottom edge of the bodice. Stitch the skirt to the bodice. Stitch the center back seam of the skirt, from the bottom edge to 3/4 inch below the waist. Turn under the skirt hem 1/8 inch, twice, and attach the lace to the wrong side.

Turn under the remaining center back seam 1/8 inch, on both sides and stitch. Attach the velcro dots or snaps, to close the back of the dress.

Stitch the ribbon to the bodice, along the waist and turn ends to the wrong side at the center back and tack in place.

Enjoy!
